In American schools, the arts are treated as an extracurricular: something to get to once the “real” subjects are done. When budgets tighten, music is the first thing cut. The result is that hundreds of thousands of children grow up never picking up an instrument, never discovering whether they might have loved it, never receiving the developmental benefits that decades of research say it confers.
We are quietly removing one of the most powerful tools we have for shaping capable, connected human beings. The Patrick Lamb Foundation for the Arts was founded to reverse that — not through sentiment, but through evidence, storytelling, and programs that put instruments into children’s hands.

We do not argue for the arts on feeling alone. Our method is to marshal the science. A significant and growing body of research associates sustained arts and music education with measurable gains across a child’s entire life:

Short films and conversations with celebrated touring artists that trace the through-line from a beginning band room to the professional stage.
Instruments, instruction, and scholarships — so that children who would otherwise never begin can begin, and keep going.
The Foundation is led by Patrick Lamb — a Grammy-nominated saxophonist, vocalist, and bandleader with three Billboard top-five singles, an Oregon Music Hall of Fame induction, and a career that has taken him from The White House to Java Jazz in Jakarta alongside artists including Smokey Robinson, Bobby Caldwell, Gino Vannelli, and Diane Schuur.
It is also the work of a lifetime spent giving that music away. For two decades Patrick has served the Children’s Cancer Association, producing eight years of its premier New Year’s Eve benefit, the Governor’s Ball. That service has been recognized with the CCA Hero Award, the Spirit of Portland Award from the City of Portland, the Yolanda King Drum Major Award, and Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellow and Caring Heart Awards.
Organized in Oregon on February 19, 2019 and re-established in Florida on June 24, 2026 — now headquartered in Palm Beach — the Foundation is guided by a board drawn from neuroscience, education, civic leadership, branding, and the touring music world — bringing credibility to both sides of the argument: the artistry and the evidence.
